Oakridge Bachupally Pioneers First-Ever SDG Summit in Hyderabad

Hyderabad : Oakridge International School Bachupally proudly hosted its first-ever SDG Summit, a landmark event that brought together 60 delegates from within the broader school community to engage in meaningful dialogue and foster collaboration to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The SDGs, adopted by the United Nations in 2015, are a set of 17 ambitious goals aimed at creating a more sustainable and equitable future for all. The summit provided a platform for students to learn more about these goals and to develop the skills and knowledge they need to make a difference in their communities.

“We are thrilled to host the first-ever SDG Summit at Oakridge International School Bachupally,” said Baljeet Oberoi, Principal of Oakridge International School Bachupally. “This event is a testament to our commitment to sustainability and our belief in the power of young individuals to create positive change.”

The summit was initiated by Ishanka and Shashank, DP1 students at Oakridge International School Bachupally. Ishanka and Shashank attended the NAE-UNICEF Summit 2023 in New York in July and were inspired to share their experiences with their peers.

“After attending the NAE-UNICEF Summit 2023, we were extremely inspired and motivated to take our remarkable learning experiences and share it within our school community as well,” said Ishanka. “This inspiration fueled our efforts to organize a smaller version of the summit, and now, as the SDG Summit 2023 concludes, it is truly surreal to reflect on the months of meticulous planning that brought it to a huge success.”

Ms. Leslie Williams, Senior Programme Lead for Social Impact and Charitable Giving at Nord Anglia Education, joined in from Abu Dhabi to address the delegates. A moment of pure joy unfolded when Dr. Leslie proudly declared that our school stands as the pioneering Nord Anglia institution to conceive and actualize the innovative idea of replicating the UNICEF summit, marking a significant milestone in our commitment to global awareness and education.

“From a casual expression of awe about an SDG conference on our podcast to the realization of a transformative summit, this journey embodies our commitment to a hopeful vision for our nation and the world. The summit, a hub of inspiration, aspires to address global challenges through sustainable solutions, drawing together a diverse assembly of 60 delegates from both internal and external spheres, marking a pivotal moment in the pursuit of a sustainable future.” Says Ms. Fiona, CAS Coordinator at Oakridge Bachupally.

Shashank, DP1 student and UNICEF Ambassador, Oakridge International School Bachupally said “When me and Ishanka first thought of spreading our learning experiences through our school community after the NAE-UNICEF Summit 2023, our initial plan to host a smaller conference with solutions towards the SDGs turned into the mini-version of our summit, which we now call the first edition of the SDG Summit 2023.”
