Observance of Constitution Day continues at AMU
ALIGARH : Various other departments of study and schools at the Aligarh Muslim University continued to observe the Constitution Day and the Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas.
The Centre of Advanced Study, Department of History, a lecture programme was organized to mark the day.
Dr. Mohammad Nazrul Bari shed light on the importance of the constitution with special focus on reservations provided to marginalized sections, while Dr. Syed Ali Kazim spoke on the history of constitutional development and the drafting process, and Dr. Tahir Ansari discussed the principles enshrined in the Preamble of the constitution.
Dr. Akhtar Hassan delivered a talk on the enduring relevance of the Constitution in a democratic republic like India and emphasized that even after 75 years of India’s independence the constitution remains paramount in protecting citizens’ rights and reminding them of their duties to the nation.
Dr. Gulrukh Khan shared her thoughts on the fundamental rights and duties while Dr. Zeyaul Haque spoke on the aspect of social justice embedded in the constitution and highlighted its role in safeguarding marginalized communities.
Earlier, an oath ceremony was performed and Dr. Saifullah Saifi welcomed the speakers.
At the AMU Kishanganj Centre, the officiating Director, Mr. Shafee Ahmad highlighted the importance of the day. Janvi Deep Banker (Senior Hall, Girls) read the Preamble of Constitution and conducted pledge in Hindi, while Mohd Shoaib Khan (Senior House, Boys) read the Preamble in English. Zerafsha Khanam, an MBA student, spoke on the salient features of the Constitution.
Quiz and essay writing competitions were also organized on this occasion. Students participated in the essay competition on “Constitution Day: Celebrating the Backbone of Democracy and Civil Rights”
The Ahmadi School for the Visually Challenged observed the Constitution Day on with students and teachers reading the Preamble online and participating in the online quiz on Bharat: Loktantra ki Janni, on Government of India portal. A special assembly was held to highlight the importance of the Indian Constitution and the fundamental rights.
The School Principal, Dr. Naila Rashid highlighted the significant doctrines for good public conduct enshrined in the Constitution under the fundamental duties.
At the AMU City Girls’ High School, Dr. Samia Hamid threw light on “What is Constitution?” and discussed the salient features of the Constitution.
A quiz competition was also organized on “The making of the Constitution”, in which Asna, Aiza Fatima and Kumari Shivani were declared first, second and third.
An act was performed by the students of class X-B with an objective to make the students aware of their rights and duties as the citizen of India.
The Vice Principal, Mohd. Javed Akhtar read out the Preamble, while the Principal, Dr. Mohd. Alamgir gave away the certificates of appreciation to the winners of different programmes.
