One Day Workshop cum Training on Introduction to Fire Extinguishing Equipments and their operation organized by GDC Sidhra in collaboration with Civil Defense Organization Jammu 

Understanding the need to include and train young people, especially the student community in Disaster Risk Reduction, “A one day workshop cum Training on Introduction to Fire Extinguishing Equipments and their operations” was organized by Department of Environmental Sciences, SRISHTI: THE ECO-CLUB and NSS Unit of GDC Sidhra on 27th of April, 2023, under the aegis of IQAC; the banner of G20 & Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav. The workshop was organized for the purpose of training the students enrolled in the Skill Enhancement Course on Environmental Hazards and Management offered by the Department of Environmental Sciences of the college. The workshop was attended by students enrolled in the said course, ECO-CLUB and NSS volunteers, students, and faculty members of the college. The main aim behind organizing this workshop is to build capacity of the community to handle any disasters effectively and to save the lives of maximum people at the time of disasters.

The workshop was conducted by Civil Defence Organization, Jammu. Chief Warden Civil Defense, Sh. Paramjit Kumar; Deputy Chief warden Civil Defence, Sh. R. Vijay Magotra; Inspectors namely Mr. Parshotam Kumar, Rajinder Verma and Sub Inspector Mr. R. D Saini were deputed from the department to conduct the workshop. Sh. Paramjeet ji interacted with the students and motivated them to learn such skills and contribute for the society. The trainers emphasized upon types of fire, stages of fire, types of fire extinguishers. They explained various Fire Emergency situations and how to handle them. They demonstrated and imparted hands-on training to the students on handling and operating fire extinguishers.

Principal of the college Dr. B. B Anand said that it is a right step towards building individual social responsibility by equipping our students with these skills. Dr Anshu Gupta emphasized upon the importance of such workshops and motivated the students to attend such workshops in future also. Dr. Anshu Gupta presented a formal vote of thanks.

The workshop was organized by Dr. Anshu Gupta, HOD, Environmental Sciences and Convenor ECO-Club of the college and Dr. Mehmood Ahmed, NSS PO of the college under the able guidance of worthy Principal of the college, Dr. B B Anand. The event was successful with the active support and coordination of Prof. Deepa Kak, member of ECO-CLUB and NSS Unit of the college.
