One Day Workshop on Legal Research
Aligarh : A one-day online workshop on Legal Research was organised by the Law Society, Faculty of Law, AMU on 19th February.
In his welcome note Prof Md Ashraf (Dean & Chairman, Department of Law), emphasised that the law students must understand how legal research plays a significant role throughout their law school journey.
Maitreyi Mishra, Research Associate & Founding member, PROJECT 39-A, NLU Delhi, highlighting the role of interdisciplinary study and empirical research gave stress on the evolution of law and how a legal problem originates. She also mentioned how good research is a combination of a conjoint study and legal awareness. She also advised the young minds to not operate in a vacuum rather acknowledge all other respective fields which play a role in the subject matter of the legal research.
Dr Yashfeen Ali, Assistant Professor, Integral University, Lucknow, expounded on the basics of research, gave detailed explanations of the characteristics of research and its types and further simplified the topic with examples. She exhibited a roadmap to the students for performing adequate research and advised them to identify relevant issues and the research gaps which may exist. She also listed the relevance of indexes and cautioned students about the quality of journals.
Ms Tripti Bhushan, Academic Tutor & TRIP Fellow, OP Jindal Global University, delineated on academic writing, while paying special attention to the aspect of references and citations. She also explained how a university student will be usually required to write, going through their academic journey. She discussed the intricacies of writing proper, detailed references and using the resources available in a productive manner.
Rajat Shandilya, Editor of the AMU Law Society, co-hosts Taha Bin Tasmeen and Nadia Mallick, Joint-Editors of the Law Society conducted the proceedings and Atif Javaid (Secretary, Law Society) paid a vote of thanks.
