One thousand three hundred 87 students had availed education loan for study in Ukraine till 30th June this year. This information was given by the Minister of State for Finance Dr Bhagwat Karad in a written reply in the Lok Sabha today.
He said according to Indian Bank’s Association, IBA, over 133 crore rupees is outstanding balance on these students. Dr Karad said the Centre had asked the IBA to assess the impact of the conflict on outstanding education loans of the returnee students and to initiate stakeholder consultations in this regard.
The Minister said in this regard, IBA has informed that banks are inclined to providing extended moratorium period as per the terms of the Loan contract and Educational Scheme under which the loan has been sanctioned.
