Onida’s Chairman, Mr. Gulu Mirchandani conferred with Lifetime Achievement award by CEAMA
Mumbai: Mr. Gulu Mirchandani, the Founder Chairman of Mirc Electronics Ltd. (Onida) was conferred with “Lifetime Achievement award” by CEAMA (Consumer Electronics and Appliances Manufacturers Association) at a mega event held at Delhi. The award was presented by Shri. Anurag Thakur, Minister of State for Finance and corporate affairs.
He was bestowed with this award for his immense contribution to the consumer electronics industry, which he has shaped and formed over three decades of his entrepreneurial journey.
CEAMA is an all India organisation in the consumer electronics and durables sector. It has been in existence for over three decades. In a turbulent global economy, India is a rare ‘bright spot’ that has continued its growth trajectory by manufacturing output under the initiative called ‘Make in India’.
Commenting on receiving the award Mr. Gulu Mirchandani, Founder Chairman, Mirc Electronics said, “I am honoured to receive this award from CEAMA, which has played an important role in encouraging manufacturing of consumer electronics in India.
I have been associated with consumer electronics for more than three decades. I have enjoyed every bit of building Indian iconic consumer electronics brand Onida. India is a young nation, and the aspirations of young people is driving this sector to new levels.
We always keep our customers in the fore-front while designing and developing the most valuable features in a product. For example, in washing machine segment, one pain point of customers was removal of deeply rooted stains or dirt from cuff and collars in an effortless way. This led to the birth of Bristle Wash Washing Machine (available in 7.2 kgs and 8 kgs), which uses first-in-class Bristle Wash Technology in semi-automatic category. This machine had innovative design featuring an elegant brush with bristles inside the washing tub to clean the stains or dirt from cuffs and collars in a manner rivalling that of a hand-washed fabric.
We have also moved fast in the smart categories space whether it’s LED Televisions or Air Conditioners. In Smart TV segment, we have worked with Google to launch India’s first official Android LED UIC TV in 58 size. Also, Amazon was a key partner with us for the Alexa powered ONIDA AC, wherein in-house voice IOT technology was developed and used.
