Online workshop on Clinical Trial Methodology and A.I. Tools for Scientific Writing

 

Aligarh : The Clinical Pharmacology Unit, Department of Pharmacology, Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) organized an online workshop on “Clinical Trial Methodology and A.I. Tools for Scientific Writing”.

The workshop, divided into two parts, 3-day Clinical Trial Methodology training and one-day A.I. tools for research and scientific writing, began with the lecture of Dr Pooja Gupta (AIIMS, New Delhi) who gave a detailed overview of clinical trials and academic clinical trials, while Dr. Sudhir C. Sarangi (AIIMS, New Delhi) stressed the importance of collaborative research networks.

Dr. Suganthi S (JIPMER, Puducherry) explained the designing of Clinical trials, including blinding, randomization and allocation concealment. Dr. Yangshen Lhamo (AIIMS, Bilaspur) discussed patient recruitment and retention strategies.

Dr. Piyush Mishra (GMC, Jalon) said that adverse drug reaction reporting and mitigation is an essential part of Clinical trials. He explained the timeline of reporting severe side effects during trials, while Dr. Syed Zaferuddin (Julphar Pharma, UAE) demonstrated a new scale for causality assessment of adverse drug reactions by the Dx3 scale. Dr. Archana Mishra (AIIMS, Bhubaneswar) gave a talk and live demo of sample size calculation in clinical research.

Dr. Vandana Roy (Maulana Azad Medical College, New Delhi) delivered a lecture on the “Ethics of using A.I. tools in research writing” during the second leg of the workshop. The lecture was followed by live demonstrations of free artificial intelligence websites covering the various steps of the research methodology including research idea/question generation, review of literature, writing a review, correcting grammar, reference management tools, including Chatpdf, Consensus, Research rabbit, Elicit, writefull, Quilbot, Zotero and ChatGPT . The demonstrations were conducted by Dr. Syed Shariq Naeem (organizing secretary), Dr. Ahmad Faraz (Joint Organizing Secretary) and Dr. Bushra H. Khan (Treasurer).

The workshop was attended by more than 200 doctors from across the country while the resource persons included faculty members from AIIMS, Delhi; Armed Forces Medical College, Pune; JIPMER Puducherry; AIIMS Gorakhpur, Bhubneshwar and Bilaspur, Maulana Azad Medical College, New Delhi and Aligarh Muslim University. The Pharmaceutical Industry was also represented by Julphar Pharma, UAE and AstraZeneca, India.

Prof. Waseem Rizvi (Organizing Chairman), Syed Shariq Naeem (Organizing Secretary), Dr. Jameel Ahmad (Joint Organizing Secretary), Dr. Nafis Faizi, Prof. Farida Ahamd, Dr. Irfan Ahmad Khan, Dr. Jawed Rizvi delivered lectures and conducted demos in the 4-day workshop.
