Today is the inauguration of a long standing initiative that will not only promote fair trade but also create awareness about organic farming in the local communities. The Organic Farmers’ Market will be organised every Friday at Goldcrest High, Vashi.” said Mr. Amit Deshmukh, Secretary, Manjara Charitable Trust while addressing the students and the attendees.

“The Organic Farmers’ Market organised by the students of Goldcrest High, Vashi and supported by 21 Organic aims to involve the local farmers and community members to raise awareness about fair trade. The farmers can come and interact directly with their buyers which allows them to obtain a fair price for their produce. The people can come and shop as per their needs but the objective is also to sensitise children regarding the practices in conscious farming. They need to learn and experience things on their own and make it a part of their lives,” stated Mrs. Aditi Deshmukh, Founder, 21 Organic and Head of Goldcrest Group of Schools.

Commenting on the successful event, Director-Principal, Mrs. Kavita Malhotra said, “Fairtrade is an initiative that I am very passionate about. The new education policy emphasises 21st century skills for teachers and students. One of the major components is development of environmental literacy skills. Our students are sustainability practitioners right from 2013 when the Goldcrest Environmental Objective (GEO) initiative was launched. Goldcrest High, Vashi conducts co-curricular activities that brings the students closer to nature. Farmers are the best environmentalists therefore it is essential to instil feelings of reverence towards them.. This inspiring task by the organic farmers sends a strong message to stakeholders to support farmers in their endeavours. All those who will visit this Organic Farmers’ Market will definitely become more aware and more appreciative of our organic farmers who provide us local, organic, and all-natural produce.”
