ORNL’s Damiano elected ASME fellow
Brian Damiano, head of the Centrifuge Engineering and Fabrication Section at the Department of Energy’s Oak Ridge National Laboratory, has been elected fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, or ASME.
ASME cited Damiano’s work on the rotor dynamics of gas centrifuges for isotope separation, including the development of rotor models, balancing techniques, suspension designs and rotor stability analysis methods.
Since joining ORNL in 1983, Damiano has played key roles in various projects developing and deploying gas centrifuge technology. In his current position in the Enrichment Science and Engineering Division, he oversees work across four groups focused on gas centrifuge research, development and demonstration. He previously led the Dynamic Systems Analysis Group in the Electrical and Electronics Systems Research Division.
He received his doctorate in mechanical engineering from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.
