Otis’ Made to Move Communities Global Challenge Recognizes Students Representing Otis India for Their Innovative Mobility Solution
MUMBAI – At Otis’ third annual Made to Move Communities global student challenge, a team of eight students from Bharatmata High School, Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh, representing Otis India, secured the fourth place and an honourable mention. The students showcased their knowledge of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) under the guidance of a team of mentors from Otis India, and pitched mobility solutions to reduce impacts from climate change, before Otis’ Asia Pacific Leaders from India, Japan, Korea, Thailand, and Hong Kong.
The STEM based solution was conceptualized and developed by the students focused on mobility solutions for farmers facing mobility challenges due to extreme weather conditions in areas like Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh District in northern India. This solution named “Kisan Yantra” would help farmers manage key agricultural activities such as irrigation, fertilizer spray and farm protection using automation in a cost-effective way.
The students presented the prototype of Kisan Yantra, which will facilitate prevention of loss of crops due to water coagulation, using remotely operated drain & sprinkler irrigation systems. This prevents crops from catching fire in scorching heat, using remotely operated fire prevention systems and protecting farms from cattle grazing invasion by way of remote detection and a warning system. These systems are also supplemented with an innovative water purification system. The systems can be used through a centrally automated system.
Addressing the students’ team, Mr Sebi Joseph, President, Otis Elevator Company (India) Limited said, “While you may have a competitive spirit, I would encourage you to look at this competition as an endeavour to serve humanity within your community.”
“Thanks to Otis for organising such amazing campaigns for school students. This gives a platform to students to identify the real problem prevailing in this world and to find sustainable solutions for it.,” said Rev Fr Saleen Pushparaj, Principal, Bharatmata High School.
