Padma Shri,Arjuna awardee, Dr. Deepa Malik graces Annual Shri Khel and Shri Explorer event hosted by The Shriram Millennium School, Gurugram
The Shriram Millennium School, Gurugram, is pillared on its belief system of Integrity, Sensitivity, Pride in One’s Own Heritage and Pursuit of Excellence. The much awaited annual sports event “Shri Khel and Shri Explorer” held at our campus, brought out the best of these values through the children and the activities they were involved in through the year.
The day was guided by the spirit of healthy competition and sportsmanship wherein the purpose was not to compete with one another, but to be the best version of oneself.
The proceedings were flagged off with a perfectly coordinated march past headed by the House Captains, followed by the welcome address and oath taking ceremony. Ms. Anuradha Gupta, Principal, The Shriram Millennium School, Gurugram said “We learn from Padma Shri Dr Deepa Malik that grit and determination is required to persevere in life and achieve success. We as a school believe in inculcating this spirit in our children right from the start. Believing in oneself and determination is the key to success.”
The Special guest for the day, famed Indian athlete, Padma Shri Deepa Mallik PhD (h.c) Khel Ratna, Arjuna Awardee, who herself is a true example of sheer grit and determination, motivated the children with her inspirational story and words of encouragement. She said, “Celebrating the fact that your body can be crippled but not your mind, we should encourage everyone, to nurture athletic skills in our students, irrespective of any challenges. The oath taken by students here teaches them how to deal with victory as well as defeat and keep moving ahead, that is the beauty of The Shriram Millennium School. I really admire the school as it carries on the legacy of Indian Sanskriti of Namaste and teaches their students the right values”.
Ms. Uttara Singh, Director of The Shriram Millennium Schools stated, “At TSMS, we ensure that importance is given not just to academic excellence but also physical activity and sports. Hence, we host Shri Khel annually to celebrate the spirit of sportsmanship and promote the importance of being outdoors.
Shri Khel had many challenging activities in which each student participated. The campus grounds looked especially bright and cheerful as they resonated with the upbeat rhythm and the excitement and zeal of the enthusiastic participants.
The children beautifully showcased the essence of teamwork and group dynamics in the Flower drill, Bamboo drill and Karate drill. The elementary students weren’t far behind as they pushed their stamina, tenacity and patience levels in the obstacle courses dotted with hurdles and commando hoops.
The middle school group wowed everyone with their display of endurance and strength in the individual sprints and house group relay races.
With team spirit leading the way, the children supported and appreciated the efforts of their team members as the Chief guest Ms. Deepa Malik distributed the medals and certificates.
A separate arena was arranged for the Shri Explorer segment where the children and parents could try their hand at adventure sports like Burma Bridge, Roller Zone, Tarzan Swing, Obstacles and climbing wall.
The hard work and dedication put in by the children over the past couple of months shone through as each group did their bit and brought together a spectacular display of discipline and poise.
Such events at the school’s premises help children build positive associations with the outdoor games as they build a varied range of skills in the run up and preparation for and on the Sports Day itself.
