Padmashri Prof. Kiran Seth delivers an inspiring lecture at AMU
Aligarh : Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) hosted a lecture by Padmashri Prof. Kiran Seth, former professor at IIT Delhi and founder of SPIC MACAY (Society for the Promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture Amongst Youth). The event, organized by the Dean of Students’ Welfare (DSW) at the Department of Physical Education, attracted students, faculty, and scholars, as Prof. Seth talked about the relevance of Mahatma Gandhi’s principles and the need to safeguard India’s rich cultural heritage.
In his lecture, Prof. Seth focused on Gandhi’s philosophy of “simple living and high thinking,” encouraging the audience to embrace simplicity in a world increasingly driven by materialism. Prof. Seth’s remarked to rediscover the values of simplicity and use them as a foundation for genuine success and well-being.
Prof. Seth also highlighted India’s unique composite heritage, calling it a source of strength and pride. He noted, “India’s greatness lies in its ability to integrate diverse traditions, languages, and beliefs,” and urged students to take active roles in preserving this heritage.
Art, culture, and education, according to Prof. Seth, are powerful tools for promoting harmony among communities. He cited the success of SPIC MACAY’s initiatives in bringing classical arts to the youth, which has helped bridge cultural divides.
The event was chaired by Prof. Syed Tariq Murtaza, Chairperson of the Department of Physical Education, who praised Prof. Seth’s contributions to education and culture. Prof. Rafiuddin, Dean of Students’ Welfare, in his welcome address, highlighted the importance of such lectures in inspiring students beyond academics.
