Partition Horrors Remembrance Day at AMU

Aligarh: Students and faculty members of the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) on August 14 (Sunday) observed the ‘Vibhajan Vibhishika Divas’ or the ‘Partition Horrors Remembrance Day’ with a silent march of the National Service Scheme (NSS) Office to recall the suffering caused by the division of India.

“The silent march to mourn the victims and sufferings of people during the Partition began from the Bab-e-Syed Gate at 5 pm. A two-minute silence was observed when the march reached the Centenary Gate. The participants later walked back to the Bab-e-Syed Gate, holding the National Flags”, said Dr Arshad Husain (Programme Coordinator, NSS).

He added: “The march was conducted in line with Government guidelines and Standard Operating Procedure (SOP)”

Earlier in the day, the AMU NSS student volunteers, Programme Officers and Office Staff also participated in a ‘Prabhat Pheri’ from NSS Office to Lal Diggi Circle at 7:30 am to sensitise people about the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign and ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ observations.

“The Prabhat Pheri participants motivated people to hoist the National Flag at their residences and were cheered by spectators and onlookers”, said Arshad Husain.
