All the children rescued in the operation are between the age group of 13 to 17 years, out of which, 4 are girls and the rest are all boys. These innocent children were forced to work as child labours in shoe making units, hosiery unit, toy manufacturing and steel utensil manufacturing units in the area.

According to the children, they were made to work for long hours for upto 15 hours a day at very paltry wages of between Rs.150 to Rs. 250 per day. Children were made work inhospitable condition in dingy rooms that did not have outlets for air or light. And also had to buy food for themselves out of their own pockets. Half of the child labours rescued were found to have been trafficked from remote areas of eastern Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.

On the orders of the SDM of Saraswati Vihar police has registered an FIR under Sections 370 of IPC, 75 and 79 of Juvenile Justice Act, 3, 14 of Child and Adolescent Labour Act and 16,17 and 18 of Bonded Labour System (Abolition) Act. The SDM of Saraswati Vihar has also ordered the police to initiate action against the erring owners of the manufacturing units and to recover minimum wages of the children.

Speaking on the rescue of child labours from Wazirpur Industrial area, Secretary General of Sahyog Care for You, Shekhar Mahajan said, “Child trafficking is often linked with lucrative criminal activity and corruption, it is hard to estimate how many children suffer, but trafficking and exploitation is an increasing risk as more children around the world live in conflict. They had to crouch on their toes from dawn to dusk which affected their physical and mental growth”.
The FIR, Covid test and medical has been done under observation of CWC , Labour department and SDM.

Sahyog Care for You is working to take stand against gender inequality through partnering directly or indirectly with government, schools, parents and village leaders to reverse these statistics and ensure access to quality education.
