Passing the Baton in Sri Lanka

A new Secretary-General, Dr P. N. Meegaswatte, was appointed last month to lead the Sri Lankan National Commission for UNESCO.

Dr  Meegaswatte is an experienced media personality, trainer and a consultant with more than thirty years of experience as an executive management professional within several institutions,  both in the public and the private sector. During his media career Dr Megaswattte contributed as a jury member at a number of international awards ceremonies. He has a PhD in Mass Communication and also read for an MSc in Mass Communication at the University of Kelaniya and MBs at the University of Colombo in Sri Lanka.

While on mission to Sri Lanka, the Director of the UNESCO New Delhi Office, Mr Eric Falt, congratulated Dr. Meegaswatte for assuming this important position. He met him with two of his predecessors, Mr. Premalal Ratnaweera and Mr.  Prithiviraj Perera, and together they reviewed past accomplishments and future challenges for the Organization in Sri Lanka.
