Peking University inaugurates joint research center with Yunnan Baiyao

Peking: Peking University-Yunnan Baiyao International Medical Research Center was inaugurated on May 18. This newly established research body is based in Kunming and runs as a direct affiliation to Peking University.

In his remarks at the inauguration ceremony, Zhan Qimin, executive vice president of PKU and president of PKU Health Science Center, talked about the challenges and opportunities in the development of biomedical technologies brought about by the Healthy China strategy.

In accordance with the overall plan for “Double First-Class” initiative at PKU, the joint research center will address issues in pursuing “clinical medicine plus X” and work at the next frontier of medicine. Through consolidating existing research teams and recruiting top researchers, the center will promote interdisciplinary innovation in orthopedic trauma, oncology, pharmacology and medical devices, and generate new knowledge, theory, materials and drugs.

The vision for the center was proposed in July 2018, when PKU signed a strategic agreement for cooperation with Yunnan Baiyao, a pharmaceutical company. The plan was ratified by PKU in December 2019.
