Peking University participates in the fourth online dialogue of World Economic Forum

Peking: Hao Ping, president of Peking University, attended the fourth online dialogue of World Economic Forum (also called “Davos Forum”) and delivered a speech titled “The Trends of University Reform in the Post-epidemic Era”. Hao said that university reform is constantly underway. With the advent of a new round of sci-tech revolution and industrial evolution, universities are again facing great changes, and the sudden epidemic situation just accelerated the process. Hao also pointed out that in the post-epidemic era, online education would profoundly change universities, and teaching, scientific research and management would be further upgraded.

Scott Galloway, professor from the Leonard N. Stern School of Business at New York University, said the COVID-19 pandemic helped integrate technology into higher education. In the post-epidemic era, universities should further explore how to reduce the cost of education, thus benefitting more people. The combination of offline education and online education would bring great changes to the landscape of higher education.

Presidents of other universities also delivered speeches on how the epidemic impacts the operating mode of universities and education as well as the construction of a smart campus. More than 20 universities participated in the online dialogue. During the discussion, all agreed that science and technology will be a driving force for education in the post-epidemic era, and it is crucial for universities to explore a more flexible, equal way for higher education.
