Peking University welcomes new undergraduates

Peking: Peking University welcomed a new cohort of undergraduate students on September 1. At around 5:00 a.m., staff and volunteers headed to train stations and airports to pick up the incoming students. From 6:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., the new PKUers were received at the Khoo Teck Puat Sports Complex. These bright and sprightly youth have arrived full of drive and aspirations for their PKU journey.

Peking University Council Chair Qiu Shuiping and President Hao Ping were present on the scene, expressing their warm welcome to the new freshmen and delivering sincere greetings to the staff and student volunteers.

Strict epidemic prevention and control methods were implemented. A self-developed crowd density analysis system was employed to ensure that the registration venue was not overcrowded. Peking University Computer Center also introduced smart systems to measure progress of registration, facilitate registration via facial recognition, and calculate the number of freshmen present in the venue. This made registration safer and more convenient for the freshmen.
Like previous years, PKU has also set up a “Green Channel”, where students with financial burdens can apply for a student loan and relevant subsidies catered to specific needs on site.
