Penguin Random House: PYR to Publish Poetry Collection by Amanda Gorman, the Featured Poet at Today’s Presidential Inauguration

Viking Books for Young Readers, an imprint of Penguin Young Readers, will publish THE HILL WE CLIMB, a debut poetry collection by Amanda Gorman, Presidential Inaugural Poet and activist. The collection will include the stirring poem of the same name to be read by Ms. Gorman at today’s inauguration of the 46th President of the United States, Joe Biden. She will be the youngest poet, at age 22, to deliver a poetry reading at a presidential inauguration, joining a select group that includes Maya Angelou and Robert Frost.

Aimed at readers ages 14 and up, THE HILL WE CLIMB will be released on September 21, 2021, alongside Gorman’s debut picture book CHANGE SINGS.

“I’m so thrilled to be working with Viking on my first collection of poetry!” says Amanda Gorman. “My wish is for THE HILL WE CLIMB to inspire and uplift readers with its verse at a time when we could all use more poetry in our lives, no matter our age.”

Tamar Brazis, Editorial Director, Viking Books for Young Readers, added, “Viking is honored to publish one of the most important new voices in American poetry. Amanda’s words will influence and inspire readers of all ages for many years to come.”
