Penguin Random House: Riverhead Author Miranda Cowley Heller to Discuss THE PAPER PALACE, Reese’s Book Club July Pick
Miranda Cowley Heller, author of THE PAPER PALACE (Riverhead), Reese’s Book Club Pick for July, will discuss her debut novel with author Adrienne Brodeur at a virtual event hosted by East City Bookshop (Washington, DC) on Wednesday, July 14 at 7:00 pm (ET).
Set against the summer backwoods and beaches of Cape Cod, THE PAPER PALACE unfolds over twenty-four hours and across fifty years, as decades of family legacy, love, lies, secrets, and one unspeakable childhood tragedy leads wife and mother Elle Bishop to the precipice of a life-changing decision. As Heller colors in the experiences that have led Elle to this day, we arrive at her ultimate decision with all its complexity. Tender yet devastating, THE PAPER PALACE considers the tensions between desire and dignity, the legacies of abuse, and the crimes and misdemeanors of families. In this novel, Heller demands readers to wrestle with deciding if our life choices remain irrevocable if the conditions have been changed.
Heller has worked as senior vice president and head of drama series at HBO, developing and overseeing such shows as The Sopranos, Six Feet Under, The Wire, Deadwood, and Big Love, among others. THE PAPER PALACE is her first novel. She grew up spending summers on Cape Cod and now lives in California.
Brodeur is the author of Man Camp, and a memoir, Wild Game. She began her career in publishing as the co-founder, with filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola, of the National Magazine Award-winning ZOETROPE: All-Story. She has worked as a book editor and became the executive director of Aspen Words. She lives in New York City and on Cape Cod.
