Plantation drive and other programmes mark Swachhta Pakhwada at AMU

ALIGARH  : The Faculty of Law, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) organized a one-day plantation drive as part of the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign under the nationwide Swachhta Pakhwada programme.

The campaign aimed at promoting environmental conservation while honouring the nurturing role of mothers. It encouraged participants to plant trees in their localities to help spread the green cover.

Prof M.Z.M. Nomani, the Dean, Faculty of Law while inaugurating the drive by planting the first sapling, discussed the campaign’s objectives and highlighted the day’s activities. He urged the students, faculty members and non-teaching staff to actively participate in the plantation drive.

Dr. Saddam Husain, who initiated the campaign, provided a brief introduction to the programme. He said that the campaign not only contributes to the environmental sustainability efforts of the university but also seeks to strengthen the emotional bond between participants and their mothers, symbolized by the act of planting trees.

The Department of Social Work organized a sanitation programme in coordination with the University Health Officer/Nodal Officer, AMU’s Swachhta Programme, under the Government of India’s flagship ‘Swachhta Hi Sewa’ initiative in the AMU adopted village, Mirzapur.

A large number of faculty members, along with the postgraduate students from the Department of Social Work and from the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, the Principal and teachers of the primary school, Mirzapur, Anganwadi workers, PRI members and village residents gathered at the Panchayat Ghar in Mirzapur and voluntarily participated in the cleanliness drive at different locations in the village.

A rally, flagged off by Prof. Naseem Ahmad Khan, Chairperson of the Department of Social Work, was also organized to spread Swachhta awareness, which passed through the village streets raising slogans including “Swachhta Apnao, Ghar Ko Apne Sundar Banao” and “Har Vyakti Ka Ek Hi Sapna, Swachh Bane Bharat Apna.”

At the AMU ABK High School (Girls), the Swachhta Pakhwada-related events included the “Swabhav Swachhata – Sanskaar Swachhata” themed programme encouraging community clean up drives, personal responsibility in cleanliness and observance of proper sanitation practices.

A special assembly was conducted to create awareness among students regarding cleanliness. The School Principal, Dr. Samina said that cleanliness should be maintained as a permanent feature. She stated that cleanliness should also reflect a person’s actions.

A weeding drive and deep cleaning of toilets and washrooms also took place under the programme, along with a Pot Painting activity, reorganization of the Art room, science lab and other rooms and plantation drive in the school premises under the ‘Ek Ped Maa ke Naam’ campaign.

The Vice Principal, Dr. Saba Hasan stressed the importance of cleanliness and urged the students to respect those who maintain cleanliness in school premises and other public places. She thanked the Coordinator, Dr. Farhat Parveen, the Event Incharge Ms. Fakhra Yaseen for their efforts.
