Polytechnic University Sports Delegation Excels at Harbin Engineering University Jubilee in China
From August 23 to 27, the celebration of the 70th anniversary of Harbin Engineering University took place in the Chinese city of Harbin. The women’s team of our university was invited to participate in the international volleyball tournament dedicated to the festive date. The delegation was headed by Valery Sushchenko, director of Institute of Physical Education, Sport and Tourism.
Polytechnic University’s team won silver medals, confidently beating strong Russian teams from Lomonosov Moscow State University, MIPT and SPbSU. According to the results of the tournament, Polytechnic students received individual awards: Sergey Babkin became the best coach, and IPMEiT students Nadezhda Drozdova and Antonina Lebedeva became the best players of our team. The athletes shared the second place with the hosts of the tournament. In the final, our girls lost to the team of Beijing Aerospace University, which is the champion of China. The third place in the tournament was shared by Lomonosov Moscow State University, MIPT and St. Petersburg State University.
As part of the anniversary celebration, a scientific and practical conference and symposium was held, which was attended by deans of faculties and heads of departments of physical education and sports from leading universities in China and Russia. At the conference Valery Sushchenko made a report on the development of student sports at Polytechnic University. At the end of the conference, the parties signed an agreement on cooperation in the field of student sports.
Immediately after the tournament, Andrei Rudskoi, Rector of SPbPU, sent a message to our delegation, in which he congratulated the athletes on their excellent results. It is important to note that this trip was a landmark event. After all, 2022 and 2023 received the status of the years of Russian-Chinese cooperation in the field of physical culture and sports. Harbin Engineering University is a reliable partner of Polytechnic, and we will continue to strengthen our friendly relations.
