PolyU Info Day 2024 Attracts Over 40,000 Visitors, Showcasing Educational Opportunities
The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) today held its Information Day (Undergraduate and Taught Postgraduate Programmes) 2024 (Info Day). PolyU President Prof. Jin-Guang TENG, Deputy President and Provost Prof. Wing-tak WONG, Vice President (Education) Prof. Kwok-yin WONG and Vice President (Student and Global Affairs) Prof. Ben YOUNG attended the opening ceremony alongside other management team members, faculty/school deans and representatives to kick off the event, before visiting booths set up by faculties, schools and departments. This year, Info Day attracted over 40,000 secondary school students, parents and individuals interested in pursuing further studies to learn about the University’s latest admissions and programme information.
The Info Day featured a series of activities, including admissions talks that covered admission information for applications via JUPAS, non-JUPAS (non-local qualifications), senior year admission (Associate Degree or Higher Diploma qualifications) and National College Entrance Examinations (Gaokao). There were also 200 programme consultations, guided tours to the University’s laboratories and other facilities, student sharing sessions and workshops, allowing participants to gain a deeper understanding of the PolyU admission requirements and obtain programme information for planning their academic journey. The activities attracted a great deal of interest from both students and parents.
With the aim of nurturing future-ready professionals and driving social innovation, PolyU is enhancing its undergraduate admission arrangements from the 2025/26 academic year onwards to provide students with more flexible and interdisciplinary study options. The University will also offer various new undergraduate and taught postgraduate programmes that cover emerging fields to help meet society’s talent needs. Among them, the Faculty of Construction and Environment will launch the BSc (Hons) in Architectural Studies*, while the Faculty of Computer and Mathematical Sciences, which will be established in January 2025, will introduce the BSc (Hons) Scheme in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (Data Science and Analytics / Financial Technology and Artificial Intelligence).
From the 2025/26 academic year, PolyU will offer different pathways for students to enable them to tailor their studies to better suit their personal interests. Students with clear academic goals can choose their preferred departmental schemes or programmes directly, while those who wish to further explore their aspirations can enrol in one of the seven new bachelor’s degree schemes to gain a better understanding about the different majors available within a faculty. In particular, students who are admitted to the Bachelor’s Degree Scheme in Interdisciplinary Studies will be able to explore study areas from across different faculties/schools before deciding their majors, allowing for more self-directed and flexible learning.
Under these new arrangements, all undergraduates (except for those from the Faculty of Health and Social Sciences and those enrolled in the Bachelor’s Degree Scheme in Interdisciplinary Studies) will follow a Common Year 1 Curriculum within their faculty in their first year to build a solid foundation of knowledge, after which they can choose a major within the faculty based on their preferences and academic performance. Following the same mechanism, students who have enrolled in departmental schemes or programmes will also be allowed to switch to other majors within their faculty.
PolyU has always attached great importance to holistic education and strives to nurture students’ global outlook. Starting from the 2025/26 academic year, an additional HK$30,000 overseas exchange funding will be offered to all undergraduate students who receive an academic Entry Scholarship, enabling them to participate in non-local learning activities through the Work-Integrated Education programme, Service-Learning projects, exchanges, field trips and other programmes. The University aspires to provide opportunities for all undergraduates to engage in at least one non-local learning experience by the 2027/28 academic year.
