PolyU: The Faculty of Applied Science and Textiles renamed as the Faculty of Science Living up to the motto of “PolyU Science Creates Impact”
July marks an important milestone in the development of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) – the Faculty of Applied Science and Textiles (FAST) has been renamed the Faculty of Science (FS) with effect from 1 July 2022. In recognition of the recent development of the Institute of Textiles and Clothing (ITC) and its growing reputation as a world-class fashion school, ITC has also been upgraded to the new School of Fashion and Textiles (SFT).
The Faculty of Science is comprised of three constituent departments, namely the Department of Applied Biology and Chemical Technology (ABCT), the Department of Applied Mathematics (AMA) and the Department of Applied Physics (AP). The repositioning of the Faculty will not only sustain its growth and reputation, but will also take its development to the next level.
To mark this special moment, an opening ceremony was held today, officiated by senior management of PolyU, including Professor Jin-Guang TENG, President; Professor Wing-tak WONG, Deputy President and Provost; and Professor Kwok-yin WONG, Vice President (Education). They were joined by Professor Raymond Wai-yeung WONG, Dean of the Faculty of Science, to kick off the ceremony. Associate and Assistant Deans, Heads of Departments and members of the Faculty also attended the ceremony to witness the joyful occasion.
In his welcoming remarks, Professor Raymond Wai-yeung Wong extended his heartfelt gratitude to the University for its long-standing support of the Faculty. He said, “The new identity marks the start of the next chapter in the Faculty’s history. With the motto of ‘PolyU Science Creates Impact’, we are dedicated to making the new Faculty of Science an internationally acclaimed hub providing holistic and high-quality education, ground-breaking research and knowledge transfer projects for the betterment of our society.”
Professor Jin-Guang Teng, President of PolyU, thanked the Faculty for its committed efforts in the past years and wished the Faculty to scale new heights in the future.
