Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile: 137 students and children of UC officials received application awards
A total of 137 children of academics, professionals and administrators of the Catholic University received the 2021 Application Awards for their excellent academic performance. It is a historic tradition of more than 30 years that is organized by the Department of Well-being and Quality of Life of the UC People Department and that constitutes one of the most deeply rooted benefits in the culture of the university, by reliably representing its identity.
The spirit of this award, in addition to recognizing excellent academic performance, highlights the effort, perseverance and discipline of the students who studied from first grade to fourth grade, including those who took the Transition Test for University Admission.
Along with greeting the students and also their families, the rector Ignacio Sánchez valued that the award recognizes “the spirit of improvement and that many of these sons and daughters are also true supporters of their groups of classmates, who do not have as much good performance”. “The effort is congratulated, but there is also a commitment to collaborate so that other colleagues can overcome academic obstacles, this is how a community is built and the future path of teamwork is forged,” added Rector Sánchez.

For reasons of the health crisis that the country is going through and the restricted capacity, the ceremony in which the diplomas are delivered to the winners and in which the parents also participate could not be held in person and the rector sent a video to the community .
“This version of the application award is very significant because we are aware of the effort that young people have had to make to carry out their studies in the context of the pandemic and our winners, moreover, with excellent results. I am confident that we can resume the face-to-face ceremony in the 2022 version to enjoy the signs of joy that they give us, especially the little ones, when they receive the diploma from the rector,” said the director of People UC, Fernanda Vicuña.

On this occasion, more than 370 applications were received, all of them with very high performance, which is why, unfortunately, not all young people could be awarded. However, each one received an award.
Bernardita Fernández Donoso, head of the Curriculum Development Unit of the Academic Directorate of Teaching and mother of Ema Ahumada Fernández, a second-grade student who won the award, highlighted the relevance of the award and recalled that she also won it when she started school. “Today I live these awards as a mother, proud of my daughter’s effort and dedication, but I also remember with great affection having been awarded during my school years because my mother worked at UC, so I have experienced this award from both sides,” she said. .
He also added that “the application awards are an opportunity to recognize the effort and spirit of improvement of each winner and their families. They reinforce the importance of being positive leaders in their communities, sharing their talents and collaborating in the learning of others”.
