Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile: Launch contest to produce entertaining math videos

Students and officials of UC and DUOC UC are invited to participate in this call that seeks to promote creativity and interest in dissemination, through the development of a mathematical video. The winning proposal will receive funding for the execution of an audiovisual project at UC.

The UC Faculty of Mathematics has organized the Create and Inspire contest, which invites you to develop a video to teach mathematics in an entertaining way. The activity has the double objective of promoting scientific culture and innovation, fostering creativity and interest in dissemination in the participants and, on the other hand, bringing math concepts closer to people through entertaining and educational videos.

The academic Mahsa Allahbakhshi, from the organizing team, explains: “Mathematics is a very strange science, it has absolute rigidity and at the same time total freedom. It seems that rigidity and freedom are two opposite poles and you cannot put them together. Mathematics The correct solution may be unique, but you can arrive at this solution in infinite ways. It is something magical, but what most people see in mathematics is only the rigid part and that part intimidates them. “

” In this project we try to show the other side of mathematics. The part that generates emotion, the part that touches the heart of the apprentice. The script for the contest video is a story about a town attacked by zombies where we challenge the viewer to think outside the traditional and imagine, create and propose with total freedom, different strategies to find a possible solution to the problem “, emphasizes the teacher.
