Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (UC): Ediciones UC launches a book collection at the Guadalajara International Book Fair
The publishing labels of the Catholic University of Chile ( Ediciones UC ), the National University of Villa María of Argentina (Eduvim), the Universidad de Los Andes of Colombia (Ediciones Uniandes) and the University of Guadalajara in Mexico (Editorial UDG) will launch this 26 November, in the FIL of Guadalajara , a collection completely focused on the development of the book and the edition -from its beginnings to the present-.
These are six titles, which will be presented by Patricia Corona, general editor of Ediciones UC and one of the coordinators of this project that will be presented on November 26, at 7:00 p.m., at stand i13 of the FIL Guadalajara .
“At Ediciones UC we have set ourselves the challenge of crossing borders and betting on co-publishing, valuing interdisciplinary and collaboration, with quality seals that share a similar vision because we are certain that today work has to be collaborative” , says Patricia Corona.
The Brief Library of Bibliology collection , which has already had a virtual launch, consists of a basic repertoire of readings for the general public, which can also be used as a complement in the training of professionals in various areas related to the world of books, especially by those who work in archives, collections and libraries.
It is made up of six titles, written by nine experts from Brazil and Mexico, which address a core part of bibliology issues: paper, binding, printing techniques and image printing; the typography and visual configuration of the forms, especially the old ones; the transition from print to digital, and an introduction to the history of books and bibliography.
The Guadalajara International Book Fair (FIL) is the most important publishing meeting in Latin America and an extraordinary cultural festival. Founded 36 years ago by the University of Guadalajara, it is a fair for professionals where the public is welcome. Without neglecting its vocation as a business meeting, the FIL was conceived as a cultural festival in which literature is the backbone, with a program in which international authors participate, as well as a space for academic discussion of topics current.
In this last area there are activities such as the editorial presentation of the six titles of the Brief Library of Bibliology collection: “Panorama on paper as the main documentary support” by Adriana Gómez Llorente and Alejandra Odor Chávez, “Introduction to printing techniques in the period of the old book” by Héctor Raúl Morales Mejía, “Panorama of the binding in the West” by Ana Utsch, “Introduction to the visual and material culture of the old book” by Marina Garone Gravier, “Panorama of the history of the book and the bibliography” by Andre Vieira de Freitas Araujo, Diná Marques Pereira Araújo and Giulia Crippa, and “Historical overview of books and digital publishing”by Fernando Cruz Quintana.
“This initiative pursues the objective of making the panoramic, compendious, basic knowledge inherent to book culture available to different types of readers. Fully aware that bibliology is a growing and evolving field, we wanted to contribute to its dissemination and knowledge, from an interdisciplinary perspective”, says Marina Garone, founder of the Interdisciplinary Bibliology Seminar at the Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). ) and director of the Brief Library of Bibliology collection .
