Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (UC): Experiential learning platform is recognized in Technology Transfer Awards 2022

“C1DO1” is the name of the initiative led by academic Julián Varas of the UC School of Medicine. His innovative proposal was highlighted for the impact it offers in terms of transferring practical skills remotely, allowing students to train in specific skills from various disciplines from any location.

The technical skills training system for health professionals and other disciplines ” C1DO1 “, received the “Scientific Technological Base Entrepreneurship – Latin America” ​​award in the sixth version of the Technology Transfer Awards, recognition promoted by the Ministry of Science, Technology, Knowledge and Innovation , Corfo and the Network of Technological Managers of Chile .

The venture was recognized for the impact that this technology offers in terms of transferring practical skills remotely, allowing students to train in specific skills from various disciplines from any location.

C1DO1 is a spin-off initiative born from research results from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, developed by the research team led by Julián Varas, surgeon and academic from the UC School of Medicine .

“This recognition shows that we are doing things right. From scientific experiments with evidence, to a market that needs what we have developed as a solution. The more institutions know about what we do, the better, since our purpose is to impact the largest number of people in the world. Therefore, this award is in line with our objectives of disseminating what we do in one way or another” , highlighted Julián Varas, CEO and founder of C1DO1.

The technology consists of an experiential learning platform that enables institutions to transfer practical skills to their users . C1DO1 empowers teachers’ feedback, and being asynchronous, it allows teaching to be efficient by scaling to more students in a personalized way. C1DO1 currently has 24 active centers in various countries, including Chile, Colombia, the United States, Spain, Brazil and Argentina.

“We are very happy with this award that recognizes a UC spin-off company, which is a true example of how the transfer of research results can generate a high social and economic impact, not only in Chile, but on a global scale,” he said. Eugenia Olivares, Director of Transfer and Development at UC, a unit that has supported the scaling of this initiative.

The award ceremony took place within the framework of the Ilumina i+e event, a day dedicated to science-technology-based entrepreneurship, organized by the GT Network, with the support of Corfo and sponsored by the Ministry of Science and Technology. The event had its final day at the SOFOFA Conference Center, in the Metropolitan Region, after two previous events were held in Concepción and Antofagasta.
