Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile: UC Mathematics launches free platform with courses on digital transformation

The need to help SMEs and entrepreneurs to digitize their initiatives, led the Faculty of Mathematics to create a website with free courses and tutorials. Under the name of Acamedia , this platform is one of the initiatives of the “TarapaTECH” project , financed by the Innovation Fund for Competitiveness (FIC) of the Tarapacá Region and executed by DATA UC, statistical studies unit of the Faculty of Math.

It is a platform with a pleasant format and low time demand, which allows entrepreneurs to acquire basic tools to integrate virtual applications, resources and tools for business empowerment.

“Although the health contingency accelerated the digital transformation in various sectors of the economy, it also revealed a great inequality in terms of digital literacy, among those with fewer opportunities to access the digital world, either due to connectivity problems or a generation gap. ”, Expresses Alexis Alvear, deputy director of Linking with the Society of the UC Faculty of Mathematics and executive director of Data UC.

DATA UC through its regional project, Tarapacá UC, developed a free, open online platform that has a wide catalog of training mini-courses with a special focus on transformation and digital marketing.

The latest version of the Digital Transformation Index 2021 indicates that, although small and medium-sized companies (SMEs) declare that the processes of digitization and incorporation of basic technologies have helped them to get new customers, in Chile one out of every two SMEs has a low level of knowledge and use of them .

Faced with this scenario, DATA UC, through its regional project, Tarapacá UC, developed an online, open and free platform, which has a wide catalog of training mini-courses with a special focus on transformation and digital marketing.

This initiative joins other projects that have strengthened the entrepreneurial and tourist ecosystem of Region I , within the framework of Tarapacá UC: “Tarapacá Intelligence” , “TamaruGO!” , ” TarapaTECH” and “Digitaliza2.0” .

“We want to contribute with the reduction of the deficit of workers specialized in ICTs and promote the employability of the inhabitants of the region, for which we will offer free courses and training,” says Alvear.

For his part, Francisco Fortes, regional coordinator of Tarapacá UC, believes that “the important thing is that in these learning spaces the participants not only know the digital world, but also learn to do step by step, for example, create a Facebook page, promote a publication, take an advertising photograph with the cell phone, get followers, among other matters ”.

The objective of ACAMEDIA courses is to promote knowledge management and training of entrepreneurs who wish to enter the digital economy, a fundamental sector for the development and innovation of labor, productive and entrepreneurial projects.

This initiative joins other projects that have strengthened the entrepreneurial and tourism ecosystem of Region I, within the framework of Tarapacá UC: “Tarapacá Intelligence”, “TamaruGO!”, “TarapaTECH” and “Digitaliza2.0”.

The courses currently available are those of Digital Marketing, Digital Transformation, Branding, Fonts and Design from Canva and the social network Facebook. These courses offer their participants the fundamental knowledge and skills to create, manage and disseminate, through networks and digital platforms, creative content that promotes the success of their ventures and businesses . In addition, they are free and those who complete them can obtain a certificate of participation from UC.

In the coming months, ACAMEDIA will incorporate additional content that will enrich the open training of small and medium businessmen and entrepreneurs throughout the country.
