Poonch: SWD establishes Skill Development Centre for specially-abled (Deaf & Dumb) persons at Mandi
POONCH : On the direction of High Court, the Social welfare department, under the supervision of Director Social welfare, today opened skill development centre for specially -abled persons at village Paralkote, Sawjian Tehsil Mandi, Poonch with an aim to boost self employment opportunities of the locals.
The centre will offer different courses and ensure the utmost utilisation of the talent of candidates. As many as 15 male disabled deaf and dumb persons were today admitted for carpentry course, while 15 female were admitted for cutting and tailoring course.
The tehsil Social Welfare Officer said the motive is to train the differently-abled persons and get them placements so that they are not seen as burden but as active breadwinners.”
He further informed that the institute will impart varied trades like carpentry, cutting , tailoring etc. In order to promote the participation in the centres, certificates will be issued to the candidates and also provided with a stipend of Rs 500 per month.
