POSTECH’s Professor Junsuk Rho First Korean to Receive ACS Nano Lectureship Award
Professor Junsuk Rho from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, the Department of Chemical Engineering, and the Department of Electrical Engineering at Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH) has achieved the distinction of being the first Korean awarded the American Chemical Society’s “2024 ACS Nano Lectureship.”
The ACS, the largest and most influential chemistry organization globally, boasts over 170,000 members across more than 140 countries. Since 2012, its flagship journal, “ACS Nano,” has annually awarded the “ACS Nano Lectureship” to outstanding young researchers in nanoscale science and technology. This year, the award was presented to Professor Junsuk Rho and Dr. Burak Guzelturk of Argonne National Laboratory.
Renowned for his work on light-controlled metamaterials, Professor Junsuk Rho is a world-renowned scholar in nanoscience. He pioneered the first mass synthesis and printing technology for three-dimensional metamaterials, a breakthrough published in the prestigious journal Nature. His extensive research portfolio includes numerous papers in top-tier journals such as Science.
Professor Rho is pushing the boundaries of nanotechnology in several cutting-edge areas such as three-dimensional nanoprinting and multifunctional metamaterials. His ongoing work on future meta-optical platforms aims to enhance applications in everyday life including ultra-small lenses, LiDAR, super-resolution microscopy, and medical imaging.
Professor Junsuk Rho said, “I am honored to be the first Korean to receive the ACS Nano Lectureship.” He added, “I will continue to pursue breakthroughs in nanotechnology and metamaterials research, developing technologies that benefit the real world.”
Professor Rho will deliver a lecture titled “Metaphotonics for Future Optical Components and Devices” at the “ACS Nano Summit 2024” that will take place on July 4 at KINTEX in Ilsan.
