Poster competition, tree plantation to mark Environment Day
Aligarh : BSc student, Surabhi Singh won the poster competition on the theme, ‘Only One Earth and Global Warming’ held to mark the ‘World Environment Day’ at the girls’ residential hostel, Sarojini Naidu Hall, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU).
Raheela Faizul Hasan (MA Literature) and Upasana Sharma (Fashion Illustration and Sketching course) shared the second prize. Fiza Parveen (Diploma in Secretarial Practice) finished third and Arisha Javed (Diploma in Dental Mechanics) received the consolation prize.
The hostel functionaries and resident students of the Sarojini Naidu Hall, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) also joined the global movement on pressing environmental issue by planting saplings of shady trees and medicinal plants to observe the ‘World Environment Day’.
Attending the plantation drive as the Chief Guest, Prof Hameeda Tariq (renowned pediatrician) remarked: “Action is more important than ever. We can no longer ignore the alarm bells that ring louder every day. The only way forward is to work with nature, not against it”.
The Guest of Honour, Prof Naima Khatoon said, “We sincerely hope that our efforts will become a significant part of the global movement to curb the rapid decline of the natural world”.
“Like the rest of the Country, students and teachers across AMU are engaging in a range of different activities to contribute to a better environment”, said the special guest, Dr Salma Shaheen (Principal, Women’s College).
Prof Shaheen (Provost, SN Hall) stressed for plantation of more and more trees to curb global warming and climate change.
Prof Naima Khatoon and Dr Orus Ilyas judged the poster contest.
Sarojini Naidu Hall wardens Dr Sufia Naseem, Dr Asfia Sultan, Dr Bushra Siddiqui, Dr Saba Khan, Dr Aliviea Raza and Dr Naveela Khan coordinated the event.
