PRATIDANA: BHU RECEIVES RS. TEN LAKH TO START PT. GANGA RATAN PANDEY AND SMT. JAGRANI PANDEY SCHOLARSHIPS
Varanasi : Banaras Hindu University has received a generous donation of Rs. Ten Lakh to institute two scholarships after Late Pt. Ganga Ratan Pandey and his wife Smt. Jagrani Pandey. The donation has been given by Sh. Prakash Pandey and Sh. Arun Pandey, in honor of their parents under the Pratidana initiative of Banaras Hindu University. Prof. Ramesh Chand, Advisor, Alumni Relations and University Advancement, Banaras Hindu University, said the scholarships will be open for the students of M.A. Hindi on merit-cum-means basis. One male student and one female student will be given the scholarship, added Prof. Chand.
An alumnus of BHU, Sh Ganga Ratan Pandey studied during his Bachelor’s and PG degrees in Banaras Hindu University. As a student of M.A. in Hindi in the year 1942, he had to go to jail for participating in the Quit India Movement as part of India’s freedom struggle. He was also a trusted follower of Mahamana Pt. Madan Mohan Malaviya ji and actively took part in activities to gather philanthropic support for the university. He was an illustrious writer and author and significantly contributed to Hindi literature. He authored many books, essays, story collections, poetry, plays, historical novels, songs and also translated several books pertaining to various areas ranging from political science, international affairs, education etc.
Pratidana initiative was launched by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Sudhir Kumar Jain in February, 2022, coinciding with the foundation day of Banaras Hindu University, that year. The initiative aims to support scholarships for meritorious students, need-based financial aid, enhance learning opportunities, promote excellence in teaching and enable impactful research among others. The university has instituted many new scholarships from the contributions received under Pratidana.
