President of India graced the Eighteenth Convocation of Malaviya National Institute of Technology Jaipur as Chief Guest and delivered the Convocation Address

A total of 79 Doctoral degrees, 805 Bachelor’s degrees, 477 Master’s degrees, and 20 Gold medals were awarded at the Eighteenth Convocation Ceremony of MNIT Jaipur.

 

The Eighteenth Convocation of Malaviya National Institute of Technology Jaipur was held on Wednesday, 18th September 2024, from 11:30 AM at the Open Air Theatre, MNIT Jaipur Campus.

 

Smt. Droupadi Murmu Ji, Hon’ble President of India graced the occasion as Chief Guest and delivered the Convocation Address.

 

Shri. Haribhau Kisanrao Bagde Ji, Hon’ble Governor of Rajasthan, and Shri. Bhajan Lal Sharma Ji, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Rajasthan were the Guests of Honour.

 

Prof. Narayana Prasad Padhy, Chairman, Board of Governors, and Director, MNIT Jaipur, declared the Convocation open and signed the scroll of award of degrees. Prof. N P Padhy presented a report on the academic activities and achievements of the Institute.

 

Degrees for B.Tech., B.Arch., M.Tech., M.Plan., M.B.A., M.Sc., and Ph.D. were awarded to the students for the academic session 2023-24 in the Convocation.

 

20 Toppers of B.Tech, B.Arch, M.Tech, M.Planning, M.B.A., and M.Sc courses for the academic session 2023-24 were awarded gold medals in the Convocation. 8 U.G. students and 11 P.G. students of the academic year 2023-24 received gold medals for securing the first position in their respective academic programs. The Director’s Outstanding Gold Medal Award, instituted for the first time in MNIT, was conferred to a UG girl student for her outstanding contribution in academics, extra-curricular activities, and sports. The female students have outshone the male students with 12 female students receiving gold medals out of a total of 20, marking a significant achievement in women’s empowerment.

 

A new 600-bedded hostel for boys – ‘Aravali Hostel’, was also inaugurated virtually by the Hon’ble President of India Smt. Droupadi Murmu Ji during the Convocation.

 

Smt. Droupadi Murmu Ji, Hon’ble President of India, graced the occasion as Chief Guest and delivered the Convocation Address. Hon’ble President of India addressed the gathering with a strong emphasis on the achievements of women in academics and research. She congratulated all the students and motivated them to work for the nation as they enter the next phase of their life.  Commending the success of the students, she highlighted that 12 out of the 20 gold medals awarded were earned by women. In the total degree recipients, 29 percent were female students, showcasing the potential that women have when given equal opportunities. She also expressed happiness on the recent progress that women have made in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). She encouraged institutions to continue supporting women in all fields for a more inclusive academic environment.

 

The Hon’ble President praised MNIT for its role in shaping the future of technology and national development. She recognised NIT’s intake from various states across India which fosters the spirit of ‘unity in diversity’. She noted the institute’s growing partnerships with international institutions and its contribution to technological advancements, including start-up initiatives via the Innovation and Incubation Center and the launch of the UG Programme – B.Tech. in Artificial Intelligence and Data Engineering (AIDE). MNIT’s commitment to research and innovation is essential for India’s growth in this era of rapid technological change, she emphasized.

 

She acknowledged MNIT’s support to IIIT Kota, appreciating its significance in strengthening other institutions, MNIT’s leadership in mentoring IIIT Kota exemplifies the unity and collaboration needed for the nation’s educational progress.  She also urged MNIT to hand-hold other budding institutions of eminence in future.

 

Addressing the importance of sustainability, the Hon’ble President spoke about MNIT’s green campus and the installation of solar power plants. She encouraged students to remain mindful of their environmental responsibilities stressing the fact that care for the environment is a duty of everyone, and it begins with small, impactful actions.

 

Reflecting on the broader role of educational institutions, she called on students to contribute to national progress through their skills and knowledge. She emphasized the role of technical institutes in creating a technologically advanced and self-reliant India. It is our responsibility to lead the nation forward, applying our knowledge for the betterment of society, she said.

 

In conclusion, the Hon’ble President congratulated the graduates and urged them to uphold the values of hard work and ethical responsibility. She highlighted the institute’s motto: “Yoga Karmasu Kaushalam”, a quote from the Bhagwad Gita, which means that we must perform our duties with complete dedication. She reiterated the importance of placing the nation first in all endeavours, stating that the duty of the students to the nation is paramount, and she expressed her faith in them that they will contribute to its progress with dedication and integrity.

 

At the 18th convocation of Malaviya National Institute of Technology (MNIT) Jaipur, Hon’ble Governor of Rajasthan Shri Haribhau Kisanrao Bagde in his address, urged the graduating students to begin their new lives with a commitment to societal betterment and ethical values.

 

In his speech, the Hon’ble Governor emphasized the importance of education as a tool for contributing to society and the nation. “As you step into a new chapter of life, remember to use your education to create positive change,” he stated, highlighting the need for students to embrace ethical values in their lives.

 

Addressing the challenges faced by today’s youth, the Hon’ble Governor spoke about the significance of stress management and mental health awareness. He remarked, “This age is crucial; engage with nature and the environment to find balance and purpose.”

 

Hon’ble Governor Shri Bagde encouraged graduates to become job creators rather than mere job seekers, aligning with the Prime Minister’s vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, which aims for comprehensive national development across all sectors. He also applauded MNIT Jaipur for launching a graduate program in Artificial Intelligence and Data Engineering, noting, “We live in an era dominated by AI and ICT, and it is imperative to pair technical knowledge with ethical values.”

 

Reiterating the importance of patriotism and love for the nation, the Hon’ble Governor asserted, “Nation comes first, and every action should be dedicated to its progress and development.” He called upon students to embrace the principle of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, fostering unity and collaboration for the nation’s advancement.

 

In closing, Shri Bagde congratulated the graduates and all attendees, reinforcing that Yuva Shakti is the true wealth of the nation, capable of driving significant change.

 

Hon’ble Chief Minister of Rajasthan Shri Bhajan Lal Sharma Ji in his address at the 18th convocation of Malaviya National Institute of Technology (MNIT) Jaipur, emphasized the transformative power of education and the pivotal role of youth in shaping the future.

 

Shri Sharma encouraged the graduating students to cherish their experiences in the institute while preparing for a fast-changing world filled with endless possibilities. He urged the graduates to leverage new technologies to address social challenges and solve social problems through knowledge gained at the institute.

 

The Hon’ble Chief Minister announced several initiatives aimed at empowering the youth of Rajasthan. He spoke about the state government’s commitment to job creation in the public sector and introduced the Yuva Niti, a comprehensive policy designed to support the aspirations of young individuals.

 

Shri Sharma also talked about the Atal Entrepreneurship Programme, which aims to provide mentorship to students interested in entrepreneurship. He also announced a dedicated fund of ₹100 crore to support new startups and facilitate job generation in emerging technology sectors. To further this initiative, Atal Innovation Studios are being established in various districts of the state to nurture innovation and entrepreneurial spirit among students, he said.

 

In an effort to foster creativity and business acumen, the Hon’ble Chief Minister shared plans for a Business Innovation Programme to be launched in schools and universities, encouraging students to harness their infinite capacities for the development of both the state and the country.

Concluding his speech, Shri Sharma congratulated the graduates and all attendees, emphasizing the importance of utilizing their education to make a positive impact on society.

 

Prof. N.P. Padhy, Director, MNIT Jaipur informed the audience about the outstanding achievements of the Institute and highlighted that the Institute has taken several initiatives for implementing the National Education Policy (NEP-2020).

 

Established in the year 1963 as Malaviya Regional Engineering College, the Institute has completed 60 years of service to the nation and celebrated its Diamond Jubilee in the year 2023.

 

The NIRF has ranked MNIT Jaipur 8th among all the NITs and 43rd among all Engineering Institutes in the country.

 

MNIT Jaipur offers 100% campus accommodation to its students. The Institute campus prioritizes safety with 24/7 security, well-equipped hostels, and strict anti-ragging policies.

 

The Institute has expanded its academic offerings with the establishment of the Department of Artificial Intelligence & Data Engineering, equipping students with knowledge and skills to thrive in the rapidly evolving landscape. MNIT Jaipur is planning to introduce two new undergraduate programs, B.Tech. in Engineering Physics and B.Tech. in Mathematics and Computing, from the academic year 2025-26.

 

A historic milestone of 915 placements was achieved by MNIT Jaipur last year, as 200 visiting companies selected 589 UG and 212 PG students, the highest package for UG being ₹ 64 LPA, which has been offered to a female student, and for PG the highest package is ₹ 33 LPA. Adarsh Rai, a student from the Chemical Engineering Department, has secured All India Rank 1 in GATE 2024, a national-level exam for engineering undergraduates. 254 students were awarded the scholarship of ₹ 1.74 crores by government and private funding sources.

 

The Institute has received an amount close to ₹90 crores of external funding for research and development which is the highest in the history of MNIT Jaipur. The Institute has also started the Outstanding Teacher Award, Outstanding Researcher Award, and Outstanding Staff Award for the first time in its history which is quite unique in NIT community. During the 18th Convocation, MNIT Jaipur also released its own Institute ‘Kulgeet’ (anthem), which will be sung at all official events. MNIT Jaipur thus becomes the first NIT to have a Kulgeet.

 

At MNIT Jaipur, all-round development of students remains a top priority, with initiatives designed to support both the mental and physical well-being of the students by organising wellness camps and counselling sessions, as well as providing one-to-one interaction of students with faculty for their holistic development.

 

Professor Padhy concluded by congratulating all the graduates and highlighting that earning a degree marks the start of a new chapter of one’s life which should be dedicated to serving both the community and humanity as a whole.

 

For the year 2023-24, a total number of 741 B.Tech. degrees, 64 B.Arch. degrees, 285 M.Tech. degrees, and 25 M.Plan. degrees were awarded. 101 students received M.Sc. degrees in Physics, Chemistry and Maths. 66 M.B.A. degrees were awarded for the year 2023-24 in the Convocation. 79 research scholars received their PhD degrees in the Convocation. The Institute conferred 1361 degrees in total, 805 of which are Undergraduate degrees, 477 Master’s degrees, and 79 Doctoral degrees. Out of all the degrees awarded, 402 (29%) degrees were awarded to female students, paving the way for true gender inclusive education.

 

The Institute has consistently advanced, setting new milestones along the way, and is recognized as one of the leading educational institutions in the country. By imparting state of the art education and training to students to be skilled engineers, scientists, and professionals, MNIT Jaipur plays a vital role in shaping the future workforce of the nation.
