President of India graces the Lakshmipat Singhania-IIM, Lucknow National Leadership Awards with her presence
Lucknow : Indian Institute of Management Lucknow jointly hosted the Lakshmipat Singhania National Leadership Awards Ceremony with JK Organisation, in the esteemed presence of Hon’ble President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, as the Chief Guest. During the event, the Hon’ble President made noteworthy remarks about the essence of good leadership in the management industry and how entrepreneurship is a key part of Indian culture. She emphasized the country’s role in creating efficient management professionals and highlighted institutions like IIM Lucknow that spearhead that responsibility.
The award ceremony took place in New Delhi on 7th December 2023 and recognized young leaders in three pivots areas of national importance: Science and Technology, Community service and social equipment, and Business.
Hon’ble President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, Dr. NK Singh (Chairman, Jury Committee of Lakshmipat Singhania National Leadership Awards), Harsh Pati Singhania (Director, JK Organisation), Dr. Raghupati Singhania (Managing Director of JK Tyre & Industries), and Dr. Archana Shukla Director, IIM Lucknow, graced the dais.
Dr. Raghupati Singhania, Managing Director of JK Tyre & Industries, reminisced about his father after whom this award is named and said, “My late father, Lakshmipat Singhania, was a visionary, a pioneer, entrepreneur, and humanitarian. He considered education a key to the all-round growth and progress of India and worked assiduously towards that end. He firmly believed that management education is essential to the growth and development of Indian industries and businesses.”
The Lakshmipat Singhania-IIM Lucknow National Leadership Awards felicitated exemplary individuals, including Shri Sanjeev Bajaj, Shri Nithin Kamath, Dr. V. Mohan, Dr. Ritu Karidhal Srivastava, Dr. Jamuna Tudu, and Shri Piyush Tiwari, setting the stage for future leaders. Notable personalities such as Ratan Tata and Narayan Murthy had previously received this award.
Speaking during the event, Hon’ble President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, praised IIM Lucknow’s commitment to education. She said, “I believe that institutions like IIM Lucknow play a crucial role in shaping ethical and socially responsible leaders. I congratulate the entire team of IIM Lucknow for their dedication to continuous development and societal impact.”
Further highlighting the country’s values of believing in the tradition of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutubkam,’ i.e., ‘The whole world is one family,’ Hon’ble President said, “In this context, the work of management institutes becomes even more important. The blind race to increase production and productivity has harmed humanity. Climate change and ecological disturbances are the results of the same. Today, the entire world is struggling with this challenge.”
President Murmu also encouraged management institutions to prepare students for the complexities of the corporate world, fostering an ecosystem that strengthens industry, business, and ethics. Confident in the collaboration between India’s management institutions and industries, she envisions positive change and inclusive growth for the nation.
Prof. Archana Shukla, Director, IIM Lucknow, reiterating the importance of grooming future leaders, said, “At IIM Lucknow, we believe that as an institute of national importance, we are responsible for fostering and shaping future leaders who can make a difference. With our varied courses, we are pioneers in starting a course on business sustainability and entrepreneurship and innovation.”
Further, Prof. Archana Shukla reaffirmed IIM Lucknow’s dedication to creating strong personalities for leadership and said, “We need leaders with strong convictions and values who are not swayed by temptation and put the greater good above everything else. At IIM Lucknow, my strong belief is that mentorship, empathy, and ethical conduct are the three crucial pillars of 21st-century leaders, and the country needs to fulfil these true potentials of young people.”
