Principal Secretary SDD reviews progress on admissions in J&K Polytechnics

 

SRINAGAR : Principal Secretary, Skill Development Department, Asgar Samoon today chaired an officers meeting to review progress on admissions in Polytechnics of Jammu and Kashmir

Secretary in SDD, Director, Skill Development, Additional Secretary, SDD, Joint Director (Plan) SDD, Joint Director (Polytechnic), DSD, Principals of Government Polytechnics and other concerned were present in the meeting.

Principal Secretary was briefed by the Director, Skill Development Department and Principals of Government Polytechnic about the status of admission in Polytechnic colleges across the UT. They also put forth some suggestions envisaging further boost to the admission process.

Principal Secretary asked the Principals of all Polytechnics to ensure 100 per cent admissions in their respective institutions.

He asked the Principals to visit Government Degree Colleges, schools and educational institutions in their districts and conduct awareness cum counseling of students, encourage school pass outs/drop outs to get admission in Polytechnics.

Principal Secretary asked Secretary BOTE to update the admission portal by incorporating branch/institution options for candidates applying for admission for session 2021-22. He also asked him to issue notification for Lateral Entry admission for filling up of the quota of seats under Lateral Entry besides the vacant seats of last year.

He said that the Principals of Government Polytechnics shall be authorized for making offline admissions in their institutions with intimation to Secretary BOTE on day to day basis. Besides, Secretary BOTE and Principals of Government Polytechnics shall make all efforts for admitting female students in diploma courses offered through polytechnics. For this the female candidates can be attracted towards polytechnics through the Pragati scholarship scheme of AICTE.

He said that the students must be assured that there is job guarantee for technical courses of every polytechnic by way of placement in industrial sector as well as government recruitment during awareness programmes.

Principal Secretary asked the Principal BGBSU to ensure 100 per cent admission for the academic session 2021-22 otherwise the institution will be taken under the administrative control of Department of Skill Development. He also asked the Principals of Polytechnics to submit/suggest replacement of courses as per requirement through Director Skill Development.

He asked all the Principals to make it mandatory to facilitate students admission in CIIIT, Baramulla/Jammu for relevant add on courses after passing out from Polytechnic.
