Principal Secretary, Skill Development Department (SDD), Asgar Hassan Samoon reviews progress on collaboration between SDD and IIM Jammu for development of Skill institutes across J&K

 

SRINAGAR : Principal Secretary, Skill Development Department (SDD), Asgar Hassan Samoon today reviewed the progress on collaboration between SDD and IIM Jammu for transformation of Skill Development institutions across J&K in a meeting held a IIM-Jammu’s off campus at Srinagar here.

The meeting was held in the backdrop of recent signing of memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Jammu and Kashmir Skill Development Department and Indian Institute of Management, Jammu to embark on a journey of mentor-mentee relationship for skill revolution across J&K.

The meeting was attended by Director IIM, Jammu, Prof. B.S Sahay; Director SDD J&K, Sudershan Kumar; representative of IIM Jammu off campus Srinagar, Principals and Superintendents of all the Polytechnic Colleges and ITIs of Jammu and Kashmir both in person and through video conferencing.

Speaking during the meeting, the Principal Secretary said that after this collaboration, a Capacity Building programme for all the Principals and Superintendents of Polytechnics and ITIs will be held from next week at both campuses of IIM Jammu. He added that the training programme will focus on emerging trades like communication technology, entrepreneurship, lab designing, Mechanotrics, Robotics, Artificial Intelligence and others and will train the Principals and Superintendents on how to rune these trades at tneir respective institutions.

The Principal Secretary on the occasion suggested the IIM Jammu to include the aspect of placements in the training module so that the passouts from skill institutes can have maximum employment opportunities.

Director IIM Jammu while speaking during the meeting highlighted that through this training programme we can add value to the Skill institutes of Jammu and Kashmir. He added that Skill institutes of J&K are main service providers here and it is therefore necessary to uplift the training standards of these institutes.
