Prize distribution ceremony held for annual sports week winners
ALIGARH : Begum Azizun Nisa Hall of residence for female students, Aligarh Muslim University organized a prize distribution ceremony for the winners of the annual sports week Aaghaz-e-Nau competitions held in two phases – intra-hall competitions and inter-hall competitions, promoting physical fitness and health awareness among the resident members of the hall.
The chief guest, Dr. Razia Rizvi, former Sports Director, Women’s College, AMU, shared her experiences and highlighted the challenges and triumphs faced by women in sports at AMU. She emphasized the importance of breaking barriers and creating opportunities for women to excel in sports, paving the way for future generations of female athletes.
The guest of honour, Dr. Mohammad Arshad Bari, Department of Physical Education provided insight into various aspects of sports activities and urged the participants to prioritize their health concerns and fitness plans through sports.
A panel of judges, including Ms. Aziza Rizvi, Dr. Nazia Khan, Mrs. Nida Usmani, Mr. Junaid Ahmed Parrey and Mr. Arish Azhar, assessed various competitions, while student volunteers from the Department of Physical Education, including Lubna Rasheed, Nashat Azim, Suman Yadav, Bhavana Singh and Khushboo Kumari, provided valuable assistance in ensuring fair play and smooth conduct of the events, under the guidance of the Provost, Prof Asiya Chaudhary and the Sports Incharge, Dr. Jyoti Kusumbal
Senior Sports Secretary, Shivani Singh, and Joint Senior Sports Secretary, Zainab Al Rafaat, played a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth organization of the event.
About 600 girl students participated in the intra-hall events, including musical chair, table tennis, badminton, chess, kabaddi, standing broad jump, carom, cycling, shuttle run, shot put throw, and tug of war.
The inter-hall competitions culminated with 60 participants from various halls of residence, including the BSJ Hall, SN Hall, Bibi Fatima Hall, IG hall, Abdullah Hall and BAN Hall, who took part in events like chess, badminton, table tennis, and kabaddi.
Prof Asiya Chaudhary said that the organization of annual sports week is a testament to the hall’s commitment to promoting sportsmanship, teamwork and healthy competition. It provided an opportunity to the resident students to showcase their talent and create a spirit of teamwork in promoting holistic development.
