Prof. Abhay Karandikar, Director IIT Kanpur inducted In TSDI Hall of Fame

Kanpur: IIT Kanpur alumnus and Director, Prof Abhay Karandikar was inducted in the TSDSI Hall of Fame as a “TSDSI Fellow” in the Organizational Category. He is also the Founding member and Chairman of the Telecom Standards Development Society of India (TSDSI), India’s body for telecom standards.
Prof. Karindkar is presently conducting research on frugal 5G and rural broadband, a device to device communication, software-defined networking, network function virtualization and 5G core network, and quality of service and resource allocation in wired/wireless networks. He also played a pivotal role in setting up India’s first test bed in TV UHF band in Palghar district of Maharashtra. He added, “For Rural Broadband, we have been experimenting with TV White Space. We believe that TV white space has huge potential in providing broadband connectivity in rural and underserved areas of India. The plan is to scale this deployment to more villages.”
He is an avid researcher with 20+ patents to his credit papers in international journals, contributions to IEEE, 3GPP standards and has contributed chapters in books. He has not only been an invited speaker in national and international forums but he has also led 20+ sponsored research projects with industries and government funding agencies and served on numerous national committees as an expert member and advisor. He was also a member of High-Level Forum on 5G setup by the Government of India and Chaired the 5G Spectrum Policy Task Force.
TSDSI Hall of Fame was instituted in the year 2019 to felicitate individuals who have made outstanding efforts, contributions or accomplishments of technical nature or for institutional building or raising reputation of TSDSI in the community.
