Prof. Aftab Alam appointed as the Chairman, Department of Strategic and Security Studies, Aligarh Muslim University

Aligarh: Prof. Aftab Alam has been appointed as the Chairman, Department of Strategic and Security Studies, Aligarh Muslim University. With a teaching experience of over two decades in International Relations, Professor Aftab Alam will hold office for a period of three years.

Prof. Aftab was Chevening – Commonwealth scholar and has served twice on the Executive Council of the Indian Society of International Law, a premier research institute in the field of International Law. He specialises in International Law of Armed Conflict. He was Associate member of the Institute of Defence Studies and Analysis. He has been on the editorial board of Indian Journal of International law, and ISIL Yearbook of International Humanitarian and Refugee Law. He has been on fellowship to the Hague Academy of International Law, the Neitherland. He has authored/ edited six books and published more than 50 research papers and articles in prestigious journals in the areas of human rights, international law and international politics. He was commissioned by the International Committee of the Red Cross to write an introductory book on International Humanitarian Law.

Prof Aftab is also on the editorial board of the Indian Journal of International Law and ISIL Yearbook on International Humanitarian and Refugee Law. He has supervised/supervising several M.Phil. Dissertations and Ph.D. theses, mostly in the area of Human Rights and International Relations and completed a UGC sponsored Major Research Project on Educational Rights of Minorities.
