Prof Azarmi Dukht Safavi Bestowed with Farabi International Award

 

Aligarh : Prof Azarmi Dukht Safavi, Founder and former director of the Institute of Persian Research, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) has been bestowed with Iran’s international and prestigious “Farabi Award”, in recognition of her exceptional services to the Persian language and literature.

Dr Gholam Ali Haddad Adel, former Speaker of the Iranian Parliament and Vice President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, and Mr Rudra Gaurav Shresth, the Indian Ambassador to Iran presented the Award to Prof Safavi, in a grand ceremony held at the Farhangistan-I Zaban va Adab-I Farsi, (Academy of Persian Language and Literature), Tehran, Iran, on October 15, 2023. The award consists of a citation and a memento.

Dr Haddad Adel acknowledged Professor Safavi’s services to Persian literature, while the Ambassador of India mentioned Prof Safavi’s academic merit, expressing his happiness at the conferment of the award.

Prof Safavi had gone to Iran to participate in an international seminar on Persian language and literature, organized in collaboration with the Indian Embassy.

Notably, Prof Safavi is the recipient of several awards and honours, including President of India Award, Ghalib Award, International Award by the Government of Iran, Saadi Award, Maikash Award etc.

Prof. Mohammad Usman Ghani, Director, Institute of Persian Research expressed his happiness, congratulating Prof Safavi for receiving the prestigious international award.
