Prof Dr A W Santhosh Kumar appointed as Vice Chancellor of Amity University, Mumbai

Mumbai:  Prof. Dr. Aruni Wilson Santhosh Kumar has been appointed as Vice Chancellor of Amity University, Mumbai. Dr Santhosh Kumar has a total of 34 years in academic and administrative experience. Previously he has held the post of Vice Chancellor (i/c) for a period of 4 years in one of the highly ranked (NAAC -A+, ARIA -4th Nationwide) universities. He had spearheaded many accreditation (NAAC, NBA, ABET) and academic committees at the national level.

 

Earlier, he was working in the United States for a period of 16 years and has held various positions such as Dean, Academic affairs, Dean, Accreditations, Co-Director, Inland stem cell consortium, Co-Director, Center for Genomics, Director, STEM program and Professor of Microbiology and Infectious diseases.

 

He completed his PhD from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi and further completed his post-doctoral fellowships from University of California, Davis, USA (Area: Molecular pathobiology of pathogens), National Cancer Center of Singapore, Singapore (Area : Genomics- HapMap), J. Craig Venters Institute, USA (Area : Metabolomics), National Institutes of Health (NIH), USA (Area: Human Microbiome)

 

His major research focus include study of “ Human Microbiome – role in systemic diseases” (funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), USA). His other area of research is on Host -pathogen interaction and Drug Discovery (funded by DBT & DST, India).

 

His performance indices are : H index -34, i10- 70, citations: 4717. He has to his credit a total of 181 peer reviewed research articles, published 4 books, 12 book chapters and 18 patents. He has guided 15 doctoral candidates and currently guiding 5 candidates.

 

His academic services include sitting members in various extramural funding agencies nationally and internationally, namely – (a). NIH study section for grant review (b). Member -DBT – Technical advisory committee (TAC) (c). Member -International fellowships DST (d). Member – DBT – Ramalingasamy re-entry fellowship. (e). Project review panel member Bill and Melinda Gates foundation (f). Grant review panel member BBSRC -United Kingdom.

 

He also currently services in the Editorial Board/Editor of high impact peer reviewed journals such as Infection and Immunity, Journal of Bacteriology, PLoS one, Molecular Oral Microbiology, Frontiers in Cellular and infection Microbiology, Frontiers in Medicine, Frontiers in Public Health.
