Prof Ghufran Ahmad’s demise mourned at AMU
Aligarh: Senior faculty member of the Faculty of Unani Medicine, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), Prof Ghufran Ahmad passed away in a hospital at Lucknow. He was the Chairman of the Department of Ilmul Advia.
“Prof Ghufran will always be remembered for his outstanding personality, strict discipline, caring nature for the students, and above all as a dedicated teacher. With his demise, the University community has lost a great academic, whose contributions were immense in Unani Medicine”, said AMU Vice Chancellor, Prof Tariq Mansoor.
He further said that Prof Ghufran’s demise is a personal loss to him.
Prof Ghufran successfully completed Government sponsored projects, published papers in peer-reviewed journals, authored books and wrote and edited book chapters.
He was a member of the Pharmacopea Committee (Ministry of AYUSH), Indian Pharmacological Society, Committee constituted to start the Faculty of Unani Medicine at the Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi Institutional Ethics Committee, NIUM Bangalore Animal Ethics Committee, AMU Aligarh Chairman Animal Ethics Committee, Committee for Inclusion of Ayurveda and Unani in International Classification of Diseases (ICD-II) for Traditional Medicine (Ministry of AYUSH), Task Force CSIR-TKDL (New Delhi) and Drafting Committee of a WHO publication on Unani medicine terminology.
Prof Ghufran was a faculty member at AMU since 1997.
