Prof M J Warsi, Chairman, Department of Linguistics, Aligarh Muslim University awarded
Aligarh: Prof M J Warsi, Chairman, Department of Linguistics, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) has been conferred with the ‘International Youth Award’ by the Eventgic Media during ‘Bihar-Talk-2021’ event for altruistic desire to improve human welfare through charitable giving to worthy causes and for his efforts to bring Bihar on the global map.
He was awarded in the event attended by Shri Vijay Kumar Sinha (Speaker of the Bihar Legislative Assembly), Shri Tarkishore Prasad (Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar) and Shri Mangal Pandey (Minister of Health Minister, Bihar).
Prof Warsi’s citation described him as a silent worker whose practical approach of teaching changes the perspective of students. He has generously given time, expertise and support to make a difference in the lives of students.
According to the event organisers, Prof Warsi was particularly recognised for philanthropic work in his native village, near the confluence of Kamla, Kosi and Kareh rivers, submerged in water for three months in the year.
“Prof Warsi made every effort to develop his village, educate the youth of this region and provide help to get employment,” stated the citation.
Prof Warsi has also established a Health centre in the village with the help of the Bihar government to fulfil his mother’s dream.
A professor of linguistics at AMU, Dr Warsi has also taught at universities in the USA. He is a recipient of the Washington University’s James E McLeod Faculty Recognition Award, UP Hindi-Urdu Literary Award and West Bengal Urdu Academy Award among other honours.
Prof Warsi has authored books to help understand the efficacy of common contact in languages, culture and identity. He is working on the translation projects of two Sahitya Academy award winning novels and his linguistic identification of a new dialect, ‘Maithili Urdu’ has been published by LinCom Europa, Germany.
