Prof Masud Anwar Alavi to look after the office of the Principal, Women’s College

ALIGARH : Prof Masud Anwar Alavi, Department of Arabic, and the senior most professor in the Women’s College, Aligarh Muslim University has been allowed to look after and perform the duties of the Principal, Women’s College till September 16, 2026, the date of his superannuation, or till further orders, with immediate effect.

Prof Alavi has been engaged in teaching and research for over the last 35 years and he has served as the Dean, Faculty of Arts and Chairman of the department of Arabic in the past. He has authored, translated and edited more than 50 books and published about 150 research papers and articles in the magazines and journals of national and international repute.

He has earlier served the university various administrative capacities, including Founder Provost, Nadeem Tarin Hall, Assistant Proctor, President, Literary and Cultural Society, Sulaiman Hall and Chief Superintendent Exam, Faculty of Arts.

Prof Alavi has received several awards and honours including the Nawa-e-Meer Award, 1997 and Imtiyaz-e-Meer Award, 1993 (All India Meer Academy, Lucknow), Uttar Pradesh Urdu Academy Awards on seven books, Bihar Urdu Academy Award on one book, Member, AMU Court and Executive Council.
