Professor Joseph Ooi appointed President of IRES 2020
Professor Joseph Ooi, Vice Dean (Academic) at NUS School of Design and Environment has been appointed the President of International Real Estate Society (IRES) 2020.
Established in 1993 to promote real estate research and education at the international level, IRES is a federation of six regional societies namely, American Real Estate Society (ARES), European Real Estate Society (ERES), Pacific Rim Real Estate Society, Asian Real Estate Society (AsRES), African Real Estate Society and Latin American Real Estate Society.
Prof Ooi’s journey in real estate began when he first attended the 1998 ERES meeting in Maastricht as a final year PhD student. He was also active in IRES and AsRES for many years and went on to serve on the Board of Directors of AsRES and IRES.
Apart from serving on program committee for the Cambridge-Florida-Singapore Real Estate Symposium, the AREUEA-Asian Real Estate Society Joint International Conference in Singapore, and the Asian Real Estate Society International Conference in Singapore, Prof Ooi has also served on the Scientific Committee (refereed papers) of the ERES annual conference since 2016.
Juggling several roles, Prof Ooi is also well known for his publications on REITs and real estate development in leading journals, including the Journal of Real Estate Research. He has won 13 manuscript prizes from ARES and one best paper award from ERES.
