Professor Moon Jeong Park of POSTECH Honored with the Toray Mid-Career Award

Professor Moon Jeong Park from the Department of Chemistry at Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH) was honored with the Toray Mid-Career Award. The award was presented in the morning of October 12, 2023 at the fall general meeting and conference of the Polymer Society Korea that took place at the Jeju International Convention Center, Korea.

Renowned for her research in polymer chemistry including the synthesis and analysis of polymer electrolytes and correlations between ion channel structure and conductance, Professor Park has gained recognition for her contributions to the field of charge transport polymers both in academia and industry.

Professor Park earned her B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in chemical and biological engineering from Seoul National University and has been teaching at the Department of Chemistry at POSTECH since 2009.

Notably, Professor Park holds the distinction of being the first Korean to receive the American Physical Society’s (APS) John H. Dillon Medal*1 and was elected as an APS Fellow in 2021. This year, she also became the first professor from a foreign university to be elected as the Senior Vice President of the APS’s Division of Polymer Physics.

The Toray Mid-Career Award, established this year, recognizes exceptional research published within the last 5 years and is presented to researchers who have made remarkable contributions to the field of polymer science and technology. The recipient of the award is honored with a certificate and a prize of 5 million won (USD 3,700).
