Professor Susan Elliott AM appointed Provost and Senior Vice-President of Monash University

Monash University is delighted to announce that Professor Susan Elliott AM has been appointed to the role of Provost and Senior Vice-President commencing on 21 June 2021.

President and Vice-Chancellor Professor Margaret Gardner AC said: “I am delighted to make this appointment, which is a testament to the talent and capability within the senior executive team at the University. I would like to extend my warm congratulations to Professor Elliott on this significant appointment.”

Professor Elliott is currently the Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Senior Vice-President (Education) and has led the Education portfolio since joining Monash in March 2017.

Professor Elliott has a distinguished reputation as a deeply experienced senior leader with a broad record of engagement in universities, nationally and internationally, and a celebrated international profile of collaboration. Education and engagement have been a core focus throughout Professor Elliott’s career, and she demonstrates an ability to successfully lead major programs of innovation and change in large-scale, complex and demanding environments.

As Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Senior Vice-President (Education), Professor Elliott has successfully led the development of key educational partnerships, including with Online Education Services for online education, and with the Cranlana Centre for Ethical Leadership and the McKinnon Institute for Political Leadership, as part of the University’s professional development education. In addition, she has been instrumental in the development of key digital education ventures which have supported the University’s transformation and engagement with online education, which has been particularly critical during the past 14 months.

Over the course of her career Professor Elliott has successfully led a broad range of portfolios and entities and has held numerous directorships and positions on national and international committees, including being President of the Asia-Pacific Association for International Education and a member of the International Policy Advisory Committee for the Association of Pacific Rim Universities (a consortium of over 50 research-intensive universities).

Professor Elliott has led the Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre, overseeing all admissions to Victorian tertiary institutions, and been key to educational profile and load discussions in domestic and international areas at University of Melbourne and Monash University. She has also led major University transformation of education curriculum and university policies and processes.

Professor Elliott’s widely respected leadership qualities and experience, combined with her educational and international expertise, make her an outstanding appointment to the position of Provost and Senior Vice-President to help the University address future challenges and priorities.

Arrangements for the vacated role of Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Senior Vice-President (Education) will be announced in due course.
