Programmes held to observe the World Breastfeeding Week
ALIGARH : The Urban Primary Health Centre (UHTC), working under the management of the Department of Community Medicine, J.N. Medical College, Aligarh Muslim University organized several events, including Group Discussion, Rally, Digital Poster Making Competition and Awareness Session at UHTC, Urban Primary Health Centre, Jamalpur and Panjipur, to observe the World Breastfeeding Week 2024.
The postgraduate students under the guidance of Dr. Suboohi Afzal (MO) and Dr. Sana Nawab (SR) participated in the group discussion on “Breastfeeding Indices and Global Nutritional Targets 2025: Way Forward” which was moderated by Dr. Ajitha A (JR 2).
Later, a rally rally was organized at the villages adopted under Family Adoption Programme under the leadership of the Chairperson of the department, Prof Saira Mehnaz and Dr. Ali Jafar Abedi, Member Incharge, UHTC.
At the village Siya Khas, the rally was led by Dr. Asma Ashraf and Dr. Ameer Ayyub.
Dr. Mohd. Yasir Zubair, a Senior Resident, Dr. Nishu Malik, a Junior Resident, and Dr. Shruti, an intern, delivered a health talk at the UHTC highlighting the benefits and challenges of breastfeeding.
Dr Naushaba Nazreen, Medical Officer Incharge, discussed the role of frontline workers in spreading information related to breastfeeding at the UHTC unit in Jamalpur locality.
Dr. Mohammad Ehtesham addressed the myths surrounding breastfeeding issues prevalent in society, while Dr. Mohammad Danish educated pregnant and lactating mothers on adequate breastfeeding practices. Dr. Shruti used diagrams to explain the correct breastfeeding procedures, and Dr. Julifikar discussed the benefits of breastfeeding. The session concluded with Dr. Ameer Ayyub conducting an interactive segment to address and resolve audience concerns.A total of 63 beneficiaries attended the event.
The health talk held at the Health and Wellness Centre in Panjipur village, Dr. Firdaus Alwi highlighted the significance of exclusive breastfeeding and its benefits. The session concluded with a Q&A session, during which ASHA workers and other health professionals asked questions to clear their doubts.
A digital poster making competition was held on the topic, “Breastfeeding support for all,” for the interns posted at UHTC. Dr Mohd Owais Shakeel got the first position while the second place went to Dr Mohammad Danish.
