Programmes held under Swachhta Pakhwada campaign
Aligarh : Cleanliness, hygiene and health and environmental awareness activities were held under the Swachhta Pakhwada at various units of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU).
The Rural Health Training Centre (RHTC), Jawan, Department of Community Medicine, JN Medical College, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) organised a health talk at the Primary School, Jawan, where Dr. Afeefa Shakaib discussed the significance of Swachhta Pakhwada, while Dr. Shubham Upadhyay demonstrated the correct hand washing technique, and methods to maintain cleanliness. Laiba (Intern) demonstrated the ways to manage waste and protect the environment with the help of the Posters.
The interns participated in a poster making competition, addressing issues pertaining to Swatchhta Pakhwada, safe waste disposal and environment protection.
A health awareness camp was organised at the Anganwadi centre, Jawan, wherein Dr. Shubham Upadhyay, Prof. Uzma Eram and Dr. Shivangi addressed the issues of reproductive health and hygiene and the common problems faced by women during menstruation.
Ritika and Riza (Interns) busted myths associated with the menstrual cycle.
At the end of the session, sanitary pads, Albendazole, calcium and iron tablets were distributed to 50 beneficiaries by Prof. Uzma Eram, Member-Incharge, RHTC, Jawan.
A safe garbage disposal and cleaning activity was also conducted by the MTS workers at the RHTC.
The activities were organised under the guidance of Prof. Saira Mehnaz, Chairperson, Department of Community Medicine and were supervised by Prof. Uzma Eram and Dr. Tabassum Nawab.
The Department of Business Administration celebrated ‘Swachhta Pakhwada’ at Frank and Debbie Islam Management Complex. Prof Salma Ahmed, Chairperson, administered a mass Swachhta pledge to the faculty, staff and students.
This was followed by a cleanliness drive to sensitize the stakeholders with the ideals of ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’. The office staff distributed hand gloves, brooms, and garbage bags to the stakeholders for the collection of accumulated garbage and other unwanted material including plastics bottles, cans, etc.
The Women’s College, Aligarh Muslim University organized a series of events to promote hygiene awareness and community engagement, under Swachhata Pakhwada.
A slogan writing competition was held under the guidance of Dr. Shagufta Niyaz. Rutba Azeem (B.A. third year) and Nisha Rajput (B.A. second year) stood at first and second place respectively, while the third place was shared by Shagufta Naz and Sayyid Sultan. Anupriya Raghav (B.Sc. third year) and Mobashshra Khatun (B.A. second year) received consolation prizes.
A street play competition was organized under the supervision of Prof. Nazia Hasan and Dr. Shagufta Niyaz. The team led by Fatima and Palak secured the first prize. Dr. Mansoor and Dr. Ataur Rahman served as judges for the event.
The Women’s Polytechnic also organized several events during the observance of Swachhta Pakhwada, under the guidance of the Principal Dr. Salma Shaheen, raising awareness among the girl students about cleanliness and hygiene.
